That was just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. I saw a guy that put a linux box in his car... This totally blows him away. Wow.

Export to Quicktime presentation, install Quicktime on PCs.

edit: kayjprod beat me to it.

This method has a lot of drawbacks.

First, it generates huge files. All transitions are movies rather than a slide that is just rotated by a graphics program.

Second, You loose a lot of control over the presentation. Flipping back and forth between slides, cursor control, animation timing, etc.

Third, The final movie never looks as good for some reason. Maybe it is just a matter of changing parameters somewhere but my files are huge and my transitions, slides, fonts, etc. don't look as high res or clear.

I agree that Keynote needs a freely distributable player like PowerPoint has. This would allow you to send the condensed slide-only file to the OS X or Windows user and he or she would have the same control and effects over the presentation as in Keynote. QT just isn't the same as the PowerPoint freely distributed player on Windows.

    Hey Mvbalaj,

You're totally right! I did not even notice the correlation between WWF and the ads. It happens almost every time. I guess now that Zynga owns them they're spamming our backgrounds, as if the longer ads in the 'free' game weren't enough.

At least I know what it is now, and can kill it with SBSettings.

I tried it out and it doesn't work for me - I get some error about an SQL variable. I'll stick with Navicat for now I think.

Odd, it works great for me at home. I'll try it at work today and see how it does.

Do this. Check out OWC or Newegg.

Ok, so lets say I go with 3rd party memory. If I have an unrelated problem with the MBP, would I need to put the original memory back in before taking it in for service?

I'm new to the whole Mac thing. Thanks.

    375 shipped!!!

    DAMN!

No, actually, that's about right for one by itself - not to mention it's not the final unit.

Collectors looking for TAM's want one, ideally, CIB (Complete-In-Box) including all promotional materials.

One of the rumors is that they will be adding Redcode support to Final Cut for those fancy 4K hd Red Cameras. Personally I'm hoping for a Macbook Pro update similar to the way they announced the Mac Pro updates during CES.

There are only two diesels currently offered in the US: the MB e350 and VW Jetta. However, neither are availible for purchase in several states, including California, and New York.

However, the regs allow ownership of these diesels within those states if the purchaser runs through severael hoops. Is anyone familiar with the process for purchasing the car out of state and importing back to the state with the prohibition? It involves driving the car for several thousand miles for a minimum number of months before registering in the home state. I'm most interested in California.

i just got this phone, the battery life isnt all that great to be honest, i think the v180 is much better, unless you need to have a camera phone, if i had a chance to chose again i would go without the camera and get the v180, there really is no difference between the two besides black vs silver and battery life and a camera

besides the batt life, which isnt bad, it just could be better, i think its a great phone, a bit heavier than i expected, but i dont mind, and i like the speakerphone as well, works very good

Lets hope it looks like this or better.

Did you guys get the reference in the headline or is it too subtle?

In our little corner of the office there's a noticeable and oppressive micro-climate produced by 3 x dual 2.5s, 2x733 Quicksilvers and 1x dual 1.25 G4 plus 4x22" monitors and assorted printers, scanners and peripherals.

Everybody who comes up here remarks on how warm it is and that's with the air-con on... in the winter. We also have a few fans to stir the air up as well and I have a small desk one to keep me cool... particularly when I'm getting cross with internal clients. :)

has your 7800GT got a dual slot cooler on it? the Quadro does (its the same cooler as the pc 7900GTX had) and also the same as the pc 7800GTX.. i think the 7800gt had that sheity single half lenth cooler on it. if thats the case, just grab a aftermarket cooler and be done with it.

seriously stay away from that 6600le its a piece of junk...

then again, if you dont play any games at all, nor use the gpu then sure i huess why not, go for the 6600...

    cheers

Ok, I decided to do some investigating on my own to determine the root cause of the excessive noise.. it appears that there was a lot of dust in the video card.. while I got most of it out, the noise still prevails, sometimes going away for a short while then returning.. I might just get the Quadra fx 4500 and be done with it.. but also get the 6600(NOT LE).. THE 256MB version which is also a 6600 nvidia.

I am going to buy some compressed air today and see if that resolves the problem once and for all.. as I said, I blew into the fan area and took the thing apart, applied new arctic silver to the heat sinks..

the fan noise is not as bad as yesterday.. but it isn't totally done away with. I am really not going to mess with this anymore as I started getting artifacts - probably my fault for not applying enough arctic silver.

Posting this from my new 27" iMac, purchased from Best Buy!

I got the lower base 27" model for $1615 + tax, so I'm pretty happy. The $85 I saved will pay for an extra 8GB of RAM :) Going to have some dev VMs running on this sucker with no problems.

So true. Between my SLR, Samsung Focus, and Cannon SD780, I see no reason to keep my P&S, except that I couldn't sell it for much, and it's a quality camera in case I ever need to take a camera somewhere and don't want to use my cellphone? Do situations like that even exist?

With the newer high-end smart phones, I feel like the convergence has already been completed.

So my school's robotics team was rummaging through a closet of stuff that was to be thrown out, and we found an Apple IIe.

    I have a couple questions:

The operating system is in the ROM, right? No need for a floppy OS or something?

Does the computer need a mouse? In my reading, it seems like it doesn't.

It only had two cards inside: the 5.25 floppy card and what I think was the RAM. Does it need anything else to operate (i.e. a video card)?

Lastly, are there any things I didn't think of that I should know??
Any sweet games for it on eBay?

    Thanks!:D:D

The iLock isn't the worst idea I've ever heard of, actually... proximity keys exist for cars, why not homes? There would be some obstacles to overcome, obviously, but it's not a terrible idea in principle...

iBox is my favourite spoof, I think. :D

And as long as we're posting spoofs... this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw2nkoGLhrE) deserves a nod. An oldie, but a goodie.

So I have owned my 2011MBP (15", 2.2GHz) for about a month now, and while it isn't slow, it doesn't feel as fast as my 3 year old C2D (E6750) based system. On my Windows machine, I can run several virtual machines, for months, without even noticing any impact on other applications such as Adobe CS3, etc. This system only has 4GB of memory, and an older 750GB HD.

If I try running just 1 virtual machine (be it XP or Windows 7), it makes the laptop almost useless, while the VM itself isn't running that fast either. I have tweaked some of the performance settings in Parallels, but nothing seems to make a difference. I upgraded to 8GB of memory, still no difference.

    Is this a typical experience?

I Think its actually pretty peppy but Parallels 6 is a total power and CPU hog. But on the other hand BootCamp runs great now. The 2011 Models have to be among the best Windows laptops out there. Win 7 runs cool and quick and barely uses power. But Apple has to fix the trackpad driver pronto it sucks.

That's interesting. The way I understand it is that I can buy my Mac somewhere else and then go to Apple within 14 days to buy the 1to1. Am I understanding that correctly?

No, because it only applies to Macs bought at one of the listed locations.
